Honed
Means: A smooth, flat stone finish with little to no reflection.
Why it matters: It reflects less light than a polished finish. Compare both in your room.
Ask: “Can I see this exact stone honed and polished, and compare their care instructions?”
Coldspring: Honed and polished stone finishes
Polished
Means: A glossy stone finish that reflects light and reveals the stone’s color and pattern.
Why it matters: Compare the shine as well as the color when you look at samples in your room.
Ask: “Can I view a polished sample under lighting similar to my kitchen’s?”

Rectified tile
Means: Tile with precisely finished, uniform edges.
Why it matters: Those edges can allow narrower grout joints. They do not mean the installation should have no joints.
Ask: “What joint width does this tile need for our chosen layout?”
Daltile: Rectified edges and grout joints
Grout
Means: The material filling the joints between tiles.
Why it matters: A contrasting color emphasizes each tile’s outline. Check how the grout needs to be cleaned, too.
Ask: “Can I see this tile with the proposed grout color, and get the care instructions for that grout?”

Transition profile
Means: A shaped finishing piece used where floor coverings meet; suitable profiles can also protect exposed tile edges.
Why it matters: The join is a visible detail to choose alongside the flooring.
Ask: “How will these floors meet, and can I see the proposed profile’s shape and finish?”
Wood grain
Means: The visible pattern and texture formed as wood grows, influenced by the species and how it is cut.
Why it matters: Two cabinet doors in the same stain can have noticeably different patterns.
Ask: “Can I see several finished doors showing the variation I should expect?”
